
2007 Update
In addition to teaching workshops in 2007, Cheng-Khee fell in love with painting birds, and did a series of 16 bird paintings, 14 of which were featured in the "2008 Cheng-Khee Chee's Birds of Promise Calendar, which was used to raise funds for the Program of Promise. This program is a Duluth, MN charity that helps at-risk children to stay in school. Production of this calendar was underwritten by the North Shore Bank of Duluth.
A huge project this year involved working with the Jiangsu Watercolor Research Institute in Nanjing China on the first "Invitational Exhibition of International Watermedia Masters." Sixty-eight artists worldwide were invited, including 28 artists from the United States and Canada, 22 artists from China, 4 artists from Malaysia, 3 artists from Singapore, 2 artists from Indonesia, 2 artists from Korea, 2 artists from Russia, and 1 artist each from Norway, Belgium, Germany and Poland. The exhibition was held at the magnificent new Nanjing Library from November 19 through December 2, 2007. Cheng-Khee also wrote the introduction for the catalog surveying watermedia painting in the past 50 years, both West and East, and provided observations in its future.
